The events that involve countries of the Islamic world are increasingly attracting the attention of the world media, the migration of Muslim citizens gives rise to new challenges for the West that often doesn’t understand or ignores the Islamic world. Some websites in English, French and German can help in better orientating oneself through Muslim traditions and thought.


Qantara.de

The Internet portal Qantara.de represents the concerted effort of the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Center for Political Education), Deutsche Welle, the Goethe Institut and the Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen (Institute for Foreign Relations) to promote dialogue with the Islamic world. It’s a German site in English, and the whole project is funded by the German Foreign Office. The Arabic word "qantara" means "bridge".


Iiiit

The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is a private, non-profit, academic and cultural institution, concerned with general issues of Islamic thought. It was established in the United States of America in 1981 (1401 AH). It is independent of local politics, party orientations and ideological biases. It is dedicated to the revival and reform of Islamic thought and its methodology in order to enable the Ummah to deal effectively with present challenger. The headquarters are situated in Herndon, Virginia, in the suburbs of Washington DC. Branches and offices have also been established in a number of capitals world-wide. On of the most important is the French Institut International de la Pensée Islamique (www.iiitfrance.net), founded in 2000.


Future Islam

Based in New Delhi, India, Future Islam is intends to be a global forum for the shaping of a better future. “As the situation has never been so ripe as today we believe that the time has come to fulfill the promise of a truly international world order“, presents itself FutureIslam, that defines itself “a major civilizational project”. Intended to generate an internal debate within Islamic world, FutureIslam covers a broad range of issues, encourages clear thinking and explains in this way its philosophy: “We inherit one world. Based in Dubai, IslamOnline wants to portray a positive and accurate picture of Islam to the world as well as to provide support services for Muslims and non-Muslims who wish to explore Islam. IslamOnline is an important source for Islamic content in the Islamic world, and is owned by Aljazeera Publishing, an independent media organisation established in 1992, since when it has been delivering news and analysis to readers all over the world. This site was founded by a Western former Christian who converted to Islam.
